Nancy Lyons, Consultant

Nancy Lyons works as a consultant for OGYVP.  Ms. Lyons was appointed chief deputy director of the Governor’s Office of Gang and Youth Violence Policy in January 2008, and is now working as a consultant for the office since her retirement in December 2010.  She serves as an advisor and provides guidance to OGYVP.

Previously, she served as deputy executive director of the Little Hoover Commission, an independent state oversight agency, from 1999 to 2007. In that capacity she managed and wrote studies on the reorganization of California’s correctional agencies, correctional and parole policies, youth crime and violence prevention policies, special districts and affordable housing.  Ms. Lyons also has assisted in policy studies and preparation of reports on foster care, children’s mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, community colleges and others.

Prior to the Little Hoover Commission, Ms. Lyons served in the Office of the Attorney General for 14 years, most recently as the assistant director of the Crime and Violence Prevention Center.  She began her career as a probation officer in Sacramento County. 

Ms. Lyons earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from California State University Sacramento.
