PLEASE NOTE:  Senate Bill 92 (2011) abolished funding for the Office of Gang and Youth Violence Policy.  THE OFFICE CLOSED ON DECEMBER 31, 2011.

The California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) will administer the FY 2011/12 California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention (CalGRIP) Grant Program.  Questions about the CalGRIP Grant Program should be directed to Cal EMA staff via the Cal EMA website at www.calema.ca.gov.

Other core functions of the office will be assumed by the newly-formed Board of State and Community Corrections (currently the Corrections Standards Authority), effective July 1, 2012.  Please check back to their website at a later date for more information.

Since much of the content of this website may be useful to past or current CalGRIP grantees or to other stakeholders looking for ways to combat gang violence, this website will remain live indefinitely and the content will be updated periodically.  Many of the links within this website, however, have been disabled.

FY 2011/12 CalGRIP Proposals Due January 12, 2012

Searchable List of Evidence-Based Programs and Strategies

As one of its several missions, the former OGYVP was charged with assessing the use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) in the juvenile justice and gang violence prevention fields, determining which are most effective in terms of implementation and outcome, and promoting those that are proven to be most cost-efficient and effective.  In 2009, OGYVP engaged a national expert to prepare an accurate and up-to-date list of evidence-based crime and violence prevention and intervention practices.  Users can search this list to find programs that are best suited for the populations they are looking to serve.  Go to the EBP Search page.

2010/11 CalGRIP Grant Recipients

In 2011, $9.2 million in CalGRIP grants were awarded to 24 cities to help combat gang violence and prevent at-risk youth from joining gangs. Nineteen of those 24 cities will be implementing proven or promising evidence-based programs.  Read the Press Release...
